Why Broken Keys Publishing? About That.

ree

The Keys are meant in the sense of piano keys (the quintessential instrument for musical composition), or typewriter keys (the physical tool for creative writing).

But more importantly, the Broken aspect isn't used so much in the sense of abandoned disrepair, inferior non-functionality,  but in the sense of the Japanese art of Kintsugi, rebuilding broken pottery into something more beautiful than the original. Reassembled, its breakage mended with a lacquered mixture of gold; its composite pieces becoming something superior than the sum of its parts.

At Broken Keys Publishing we understand the journey of a published book is from something incorporeal and ethereal that only initially exists in the writer's imagination and heart, to a final book on a bookshelf.

The sum of this journey's parts are the author's creativity, the technical experience of layout, formatting, editing, and design, the craftsmanship of printers, the artistic eye of illustrators and photographers, the discipline and crucial soft skills of models, the mechanical minds of AI's, marketing and media promotion, to the retail bookshops, and ultimately, morphing back into its incorporeal and ethereal form in a reader's mind.

We believe the creation, production, and manufacturing of a book is a grand orchestration of creativity, talents, and skillsets, honed into a symphony by the skillful oversight of a maestro.

We believe it is, literally, a journey from the metaphysical into the realms of reality and back again, and we are happy, humbled, and ecstatic to accompany authors on this odyssey!
