Publishing Services

Publishing through Broken Keys Publishing & Press includes worldwide distribution of Print-on-demand*** editions through Amazon, and can include other electronic distributors such as Barnes & Noble and others. After initial local book signings, we will most often have the title listed on Indigo.
 

Cover artwork (possibly back cover, spine, or front cover) will include the Broken Keys Publishing & Press logo. As of March 2024 we no longer publish ebooks and practice Sustainable Publishing. Titles published through Broken Keys Publishing & Press, in both Print-on-demand and Print edition versions, will include the Sustainable Publishing logo on the back cover.

Cover and text formatting & layout services (50% discount), editing services (up to 25% discount), possibly cover design (50% discount), assignment of the title's ISBN, and submission to Library and Archives of Canada, will be included and priced accordingly and agreed upon before any work commences.

 

We do allow an option for the author to have their own editor, or have a third party editor, independent of Broken Keys Publishing & Press, edit their manuscript.
 

A Contract between Broken Keys Publishing & Press and the author will be drafted and a contractually agreed upon percentage of the sale's profits will be shared between Broken Keys Publishing & Press and the author.

Print Editions** will be coordinated for further and better profit margins.
 

Periodic radio and TV interviews will be set up (as Covid restrictions and lockdowns permit), as will scheduled book signing events in the larger big-box stores (ie Chapters, Indigo, Coles) as well as smaller independent bookshops, and various online promotions.

The mediums through which we work are defined as follows:​
 

*Ebook:

A digital or electronic version of a printed book that can be read on a computer or handheld device designed specifically for this purpose.

It should be noted, as we transition towards the environmentally-friendly Sustainable Publishing we will be phasing out our option of ebooks by March of 2024. Some exceptions will apply.

**Print Edition:

A system or process whereby a set number of copies of a book or text are printed either via offset printing, lithography, or digital technology and shipped directly to the publisher and/or author for direct sales and/or inventory.

***Print-on-demand, or POD:

A system or process whereby individual copies or small numbers of a book or text are printed to order and shipped directly to the end-user or customer, the copies bypassing both the publisher and/or the author. Often this service is available worldwide.
