In March 2024, Broken Keys Publishing & Press made the bold decision to stop publishing eBooks.

The reasoning was multifaceted.
From the high-resource, low-sales of eBooks, to supporting local brick-and-mortar bookstores, to becoming ecologically responsible, to supporting the forestry industry, to reduce our carbon-footprint through serious action not lip-service, and to stop poisoning our planet, to name only a few. If you are interested in learning more about this, please visit our website page here.

We called this initiative Sustainable Publishing©, and our titles carry the Sustainable Publishing logo.
As we approach 50 titles entering early 2025, 40% are Sustainable Publishing© titles, and this number will only go up!

We are proud to announce our efforts have been noticed!
The Faces Ottawa Awards 2025 have listed the finalists and in the category of Green Initiative and Broken Keys Publishing & Press has been nominated for this Sustainable Publishing endeavour.
Voting commences on February 14th and you can vote here, one vote per day per email address. We would greatly appreciate your support.
The more paper that is used, the more trees are planted.
The more trees planted, the more carbon is sequestered from the atmosphere.
It's counter-intuitive, I know. Sustainable Publishing© means printed books breathe oxygen into the atmosphere - literally. For every 3 tree harvested through sustainable forest management, 4 trees are replanted. It means a better and cleaner environment. The more paper that is used, the more trees are planted; the more trees planted, the more carbon is sequestered from the atmosphere.
But don't eBooks have a carbon-neutral footprint? you ask.
Actually, no. Not at all. eBooks require e-readers and e-readers require lithium batteries. Ultimately, e-books poison our environment.
eBooks = lithium poisoning the Earth
Printed books = trees breathing oxygen into the atmosphere
The Choice is simple
